The Examination Office for Doctoral Studies and Habilitation is responsible for the administrative processes for doctoral and habilitation procedures in Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Geography and Geosciences. It is the first place to contact for administrative matters.
Doctoral candidates at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz are required to register in acciordance with section 34 para. 4 sentence 1 of the University Act (Hochschulgesetz, HochschG) of Rhineland-Palatinate, regardless of whether they wish to be enrolled as (doctoral) students or not.
The legal status of a doctoral candidate is only obtained through registration and subsequent admission. As such, this must take place at the beginning of the doctoral project. The confirmation date for admission is considered to be the start of the doctorate in accordance to section 34 para. 3 S. 3 of the HochSchG.
The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz publication guidelines must be followed for all scientific publications. This contains information regarding attributing publications completely and unambiguously to their authors. The publication of the dissertation is the conclusion of all doctoral work. A cumulative dissertation can also be submitted as a dissertation text.
However, you must receive approval in advance from the Dean if you are doing your doctorate in accordance with the Dr. rer. nat. doctoral degree regulations dated July 24, 2007 as amended on August 22, 2012. Please send your CV and a list of the publications you plan to use for your dissertation (including publication status) to the Dean’s Office.
