JGU and especially the Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Geography and Geociences offer various projects and programs for students in 5th grade and above who are interested in the natural sciences. For example these projects and programs offer participants the opportunity to get a taste of the subjects in our faculty, to carry out experiments themselves as part of workshops for school classes or during vacation programs, or to learn more about the scientists who work in natural sciences through events and our Instagram channels. In addition to studying the subjects, vocational training is also possible at the faculty.

The NatLab for school children (NatLab) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz offers a variety of school class projects in the field of natural science for grades 5 to 13.

However, individual interested school children can also work on experiments outside of school in experimental courses, research days and vacation academies in the NatLab for school children.

You will have the opportunity to spend a week getting to know JGU and your chosen porgram of study. By attending different courses and practical units, you will gain deeper insights into your chosen porgram, get to know potential fellow students, become familiar with student life and the JGU campus and bv benefiting from first-hand information from other students on campus.

The goal of the Ada Lovelace Project is to get girls interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Our events are aimed at girls aged 10 and over. Practical work is particularly important to us: In our events, you are allowed to try things out and experiment on your own. In addition to events with our partner schools, we also offer open events for girls, e.g. our vacation courses.

What does everyday life in a chemistry lab look like? How do scientists work?

The 14-day internship in the field of Chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz offers students the opportunity to get a taste of everyday working life in a scientific research laboratory. The employees will show you their day-to-day work and try to give you an idea of what their profession is like.

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) offers particularly goal-oriented and talented students the opportunity to take up pre-university program at JGU. The pre-university study program is open to all talented and motivated high school students.

As a student in the pre-university program you will attend regular courses during lecture periods. You can acquire certificates of achievement and take examinations that will be recognized for later studies.

The Ada Lovelace Project supports women in STEM! Our programs are therefore aimed at female STEM students in Faculties 08, 09 and 10. In our mentoring programs first-year students are accompanied, supported and advised by experienced female students (mentors). Networking is particularly important to us due to the low proportion of women in many STEM fields. We also offer seminars for female STEM students of all semesters that strengthen study-related skills and career-relevant soft skills.

It is possilbe to complete an orientation internship (OI) in the NatLab for school children (NatLab) at JGU as an extracurricular place of learning instead of at school. In the NatLab, student teachers can gain experience in experimenting with school children as part of their internship.

With over a hundred school filed trips per year from a wide variety of secondary schools, it is possible to gain a wide range of experience as an intern. The school classes are divided into small groups on site and each group is supervised by a student.

We use social media to report on news and interesting information from the faculty and look forward to sharing them.
