The Examination Office for Doctoral Studies and Habilitation is responsible for the administrative processes for doctoral and habilitation procedures in Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Geography and Geosciences. It is the first place to contact for administrative matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doctoral candidates at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz are required to register in acciordance with section 34 para. 4 sentence 1 of the University Act (Hochschulgesetz, HochschG) of Rhineland-Palatinate, regardless of whether they wish to be enrolled as (doctoral) students or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legal status of a doctoral candidate is only obtained through registration and subsequent admission. As such, this must take place at the beginning of the doctoral project. The confirmation date for admission is considered to be the start of the doctorate in accordance to section 34 para. 3 S. 3 of the HochSchG.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A condition for the Dr. phil. at Faculty 09 is a dissertation topic with a focus on a human geography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-button>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n

The new doctoral regulations document for the Dr. rer. nat. degree in Faculty 09 went into effect on October 18, 2021. The amended version dated February 17, 2025 is currently the valid doctoral regulations document for all of the natural science doctoral projects in Faculty 09.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All doctoral candidates who were accepted into doctoral programs in accordance with section 9 of the doctor degree regulations dated July 24, 2027, as amended on August 22, 2012, no longer than one year before the new\/current doctoral degree regulations came into effect (acceptance after October 18, 2020) may opt for the doctoral degree assessment procedure according to the previously valid doctoral degree regulations or according to the current doctoral degree regulations. Once a decision has been made, it is final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In general, the new doctoral degree regulations are more specific than the previous, expired doctoral degree regulations. Many aspects, such as the process of a cooperative doctorate, are much more explicit and therefore more clearly defined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significant differences to the previous regulations can be found primarily in the appointment of advisors (section 4) and evaluators (section 5) and the composition of the examination comitee (section 6), but also in the entrance requirements (section 7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We ask you to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the new regulations if you are involved in a doctoral degree assesment procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-button>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n

To pursue a doctorate as part of this structured graduate program, candidates must first submit a formal application and subsequently be selected by the Steering Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MPGC is a structured graduate program of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Max Planck Society with its own doctoral degree regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It specifically promotes interdisciplinary dissertations that do not completely belong to any of the traditional disciplines. The collaboration between JGU research groups and groups from the two resident Max Planck Institutes is unique and makes it possible to do research work for the doctorate both at JGU and at the Max Planck Institutes. The MPGC is an attractive graduate program in an international research environment, especially for international doctoral students who sometimes come from very diverse academic backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-button>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n

The MD-PhD\/PhD program in Translational Biomedicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz is a structured training program that combines biomedical and translational research togehter with clinical teaching elements. While medical graduates face the challenge of acquiring research expertise and simultaneously-balancing clinical obligations , science graduates need to gain insight into relevant medical fields as well as get access to patients and material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-button>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n \n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-button>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordion>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
